ETCHED IN SKIN ON A SUNLIT NIGHT
Reykjavik. Fall. 2008. Jules, an African-American ex-pat, becomes entranced with Barack Obama while her husband Ólafur, a white Icelandic investment banker, brings reality home—the worst economic crash in his nation’s history. In the midst of their growing worry, a cryptic stranger pays Jules a visit, forcing her to confront her past and Ólafur gives his young biracial daughter a gift: the Icelandic classic Tíu Litlir Negrastrákarnir. Or Ten Little Niggerboys. ETCHED... asks the question: how well do we really know the people we love . . . and does it matter?
